Finding My True North: Why I Started a Different Kind of Yacht Brokerage

After years of building businesses for others, I decided to build my own. That’s how True North Yachts was born — and why it’s not your typical brokerage.

True North Yachts isn’t just a brokerage — it’s the result of a journey. To understand what makes it different, it helps to start at the beginning, and the story that led me to create a fresh approach to buying and selling boats. A concept born from passion, purpose, and a mission to put trust ahead of transaction. Here's my story.

At the start of this year, I sat down to write my CV. I’d been made redundant three times in three years. Each time, I'd find a new role and throw myself into giving it my best shot. But as I started listing out my experience, it hit me: I’d already performed nearly every role it takes to run a company. I’d managed teams, juggled accounts, led marketing campaigns, organised events, handled logistics, built supplier networks, and spent over a decade immersed in the marine industry. The missing piece? I was still building other people’s businesses. So I decided it was time to build my own — and True North Yachts was born.

But this wasn’t just about business. It was about purpose.Sailing has been a part of my life for over 25 years. It’s more than a passion — it’s where I find focus, peace, and perspective. When life feels noisy or uncertain, time on the water offers clarity. It doesn’t remove the challenges, but it puts them in their place. Sailing grounds me, recentres me, and reminds me what truly matters. That’s why I’m not just building a brokerage — I’m building a space that connects people with that same sense of freedom and mindfulness. A moment of calm in a world that often feels overwhelming. A chance to pause, reset, and reconnect.True North Yachts is about modernising the brokerage experience. It’s about creating clear, accessible content through social media and real-feel videography. It’s about meeting people where they are — digitally, emotionally, and practically — and guiding them through one of the biggest decisions they’ll make with clarity and confidence. And because yacht brokerage needs a reset. It needs to be built around reputation, not bravado. Around trust, not jargon. Around transparency, so that buyers and sellers alike feel supported and know their not just a dot on sales target graph. This business is still young, and I’m learning every day. But it’s driven by something deeper than sales targets. It’s driven by a belief that good brokerage is not just about boats — it’s about people, relationships, and helping others navigate their own version of connection with the sea.If you’re in the marine world, building your own business, or simply believe in doing things differently — I’d love to connect. Here’s to backing yourself. Here’s to honest business. And here’s to getting more people out on the water — safely, confidently, and with life-longenjoyment.
